Finding Peace Amongst the chaos

Like many of you, in light of recent events surrounding the presidential election, I’ve been left feeling… well drained. I said I wasn’t going to speak on it because quite frankly it is both upsetting and exhausting. However, we cannot give up the fight and it was clear that there is still so much more to be done. As a mother and a wife the protection of my family comes first. Finding peace amongst the chaos requires a strong mind body and soul. But how do we do that when theres so much going on around us that constant interrupts our balance.

Do what makes you happy.

One thing that remains true is to continue to do what gives you joy. I know that sounds a bit cliche and at times unachievable but I honestly believe it's finding small things throughout the day that can add up and make an overall impact on our “peace”. For me it's creating. Listing to music that I like to listen to —whether it’s popular or not. If your a stay-at-home mom like myself, we know that every hour is counted and our sanity slowly along with it. Listening to music while doing the dishes makes a huge difference in how we respond to certain situations. If it was a tough day at work making sure that your night routine is scheduled without any interruptions so that you can properly unwind. If you like to read, finish that book that’s been sitting on your nightstand for weeks. Go for a walk, stretch or meditate. My point in all of this is there isn’t one solution nor is it over night.

Much like this past election, things take time. It’s the little things that add up to the bigger picture. Going into these last months of the year WE are going to give ourselves a little grace and actively do the things we love to do so that we can continue to keep our peace. Remember who we are and being mindful of the world around us will help us to better understand ourselves and each other. Speaking up when necessary and learning to let things go when needed. Eating what makes our body feel good and practicing our faith. To believe that there is better we have to actively practice these things. No it won’t solve everything nor will it be the sole solution but it will help us find peace.
